The latest recording sees the choir joined by the Britten Sinfonia for a rich collection of music from Estonia and latvia. The main work is Kreek’s Notebook where Tõnu Kõrvits (born 1969) pays homage to Cyrillus Kreek while presenting a contemporary view of traditional Estonian folk hymns. P
hilips: Cantiones sacrae octonis vocibus (1613)
This new recording features the 8-part motets of Peter Philips (1560/1-1628) and will officially be released on February 25th 2013, 400 years since the music was first published in Antwerp. Many of these stunning motets have never been recorded before.
The choir are joined by the English Cornett and Sackbut Ensemble in an attempt to recreate authentic sounds from the early 17th century. Although an Englishman, Philips lived in Brussels in exile because of his Catholic faith and, following a period of study in Italy, his compositions took on a distinctly southern European style.
For this recording all new editions were prepared by former Royal Holloway Director of Chapel Music, Prof. Lionel Pike.

Bo Hansson: Endless Border (2012)
Critic’s Pick: International Choral Magazine:
“Gough creates a selection of choral musical delights...each with exquisite treatment of text and perfect performance of sensitive musical nuancesâ€
"This marvellous disc devoted to the works of Bo Hansson not only pays tribute to the Swedish composer's fresh, melodic choral writing but also to the uniformly excellent vocal ensemble"
Choir & Organ, May 2012
The Swede Bo Hansson is a man of many talents: a guitarist, and a composer of a wide range of music in folk and jazz idioms. Choral music might be a relatively recent departure for him but its roots run deep, back to the days of his childhood when he sang as a treble in his local choir. He has observed that ‘the human voice is the closest you can come to your soul’ and in that search he writes music that demands much of its performers in its sustained intensity of sound, a penchant for a cappella and a fresh way with word-setting even in the most established of texts, as in the darting energy of the Gloria from the Missa brevis.
"Rupert Gough and his Royal Holloway Choir are no strangers to Hyperion, having previously made waves in music by Baltic composers Miškinis and Dubra. Here’s yet another sign that he’s one of the most
exciting choral conductors of his generation."
